Topic: The Wind in the Willows

During English we will be delving into mystery and suspense stories, formal letter and instruction writing. In Math we will be extending our knowledge of fractions, time and shape. In addition, we will be exploring the topic of measurement and statistics, completing practical challenges. As part of Geography we will be looking at different types of maps including aerial and ordinance maps. Throughout our science work we will be investigating living things and how they can be grouped using classification keys. Our art focus this half term will be expressing our like and dislikes through a montage, using line, tone, shape and colour to represent figures.

Topic: Magical Matilda

During English we will be exploring Character and setting descriptions, narrative writing and persuasive/balanced arguments. In Math we will be extending and challenging ourselves within the number topic, specifically learning at how to tackle word problems, as well as studying the topics of money and time. As part of Geography we will be looking at lines of longitude and latitude and plotting the most significant lines. As part of our Science work we will be looking at sound and how it travels. During our art sessions we will be looking at colours and how they are used to create different moods and feelings. Our SMSC day sees us celebrating Remembrance Day. Topic Overview Autumn 1 Newsletter Term: Autumn 1
Topic: The Radical Romans

Welcome to Year 4! This half term our topic will be 'The Radical Romans'. We will be looking at two new texts in English, with a focus of newspaper and persuasive writing. In Math we will be strengthening our knowledge of place value and calculation as well as learning Roman Numerals. During the afternoon sessions, we will be creating Roman mosaic art. Additionally, in Geography we will be looking at where the Romans settled and put our research into a timeline within History. Science will see us exploring electricity and circuits. To enhance our learning and understanding of the Romans, we will be visiting the Dewa Roman Museum in Chester.
