Topic: Who's Afriad of the Big Bad Wolf?
This half term we will be looking at a range of traditional tales and stories. In our Literacy lessons we will be acting out and retelling the story of Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Gingerbread Man. We will be sequencing the stories and trying to retell them in our own words. The role play area has magically transformed into Grandma’s cottage and will provide opportunities to extend our reading, writing, maths and phonics. We will continue to write our names, to hear and say the initial sound and to represent sounds correctly in our writing as we write a list of ingredients for Goldilocks and the Three Bears porridge and a wanted poster for the wolf. Our maths focus will be counting up to 10 objects, finding one more and one less, recognising differences in quantity and recognising and using shapes as we construct various models.

Topic: Winter Woollies
As we begin our 'Winter Woollies' topic we will discuss the seasons and investigate the types of clothing needed for the different types of weather. The main focus will be based around Winter and our role play area has been magically transformed into a winter cottage. As part of our maths activities we will be looking at counting, writing and recognising numbers to 10 and naming simple shapes. Our Literacy focus will explore a variety of Winter and Christmas stories such as Elmer in the snow, The Emperor's Egg, Santa comes to Stoke on Trent and many more. We will extend our learning and mark making through writing letters to Santa and a list of presents, writing our names and beginning to use some clearly identifiable letters. Our phase 1 phonics will introduce rhyme and alliteration and we will be working on recognising and writing the letter sounds m,d,g,o,c, and K. Please support your child with these sounds.

Topic: All About Me
Our topic during this half term will initially focus on ensuring that all children become settled, confident and aware of the routines and expectations within the nursery setting. As we focus more on our topic we will be talking about ourselves and our families and getting to know our peers. We will be learning about the different parts of the body and discussing our features and what makes us different and unique. Our main story focus will be 'Elmer the Elephant' and we will explore how Elmer was different to his friends. We will be getting messy as we paint self portraits and pictures of Elmer. We will also learn lots of new songs as we begin our phase 1 phonics sessions.
