Topic Overview Summer 2 Newsletter Term: Summer 2
Topic: Nearby and Afar

During this half term we will be basing our learning on 'Nearby and Afar' and our class text will be: Around the World in 80 Days. In English, we will be writing our own adventure stories and newspaper articles linked to our class text. In Maths, we will be learning about written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, Shape, Volume and Capacity, Position and Direction and Fractions. In Science, we will be learning about Plants. In Computing, we will learn how to use databases. In Geography, we will be using maps to locate countries and cities in the world, and plotting the various places visited by Phileas Fogg. We will also spend some time considering how volcanoes are for are formed and where the most famous volcanoes are found. In French, we will be learning about schools. In PE, we will be preparing for Sports Day and participating in some Athletics themed activities. We will also create our own dances based on the movements seen in a pottery museum.

Topic: A Shakespearian Tale

During this half term we will be basing our learning on A Shakespearian Tale and our class text will be: Macbeth. In English, we will be writing our own play scripts, Haiku and Cinquain poems and writing Character and Setting descriptions based on the story of Macbeth. In Maths, we will be learning about mental methods for addition and subtraction, Shape, Volume and Capacity, Statistics, Time, Number and Place Value. In Science, we will be learning about Light. In Computing, we will learn how to send emails with attachments. In Art and Design, we will be learning about primary and secondary colours, creating colour washes and combining digital images with drawn or painted images. In French, we will belearning about the weather. In Music, we will learn about the history of music and use our own instruments to create accompaniments. In History, we will be learning about the different groups that invaded Britain and how the methods of combat havechanged. We will study timelines and the passing of time.

Topic: The First Drawing

During this half term we will be basing our learning on Stone Age to Iron Age and our class texts will be: Stone Henge, The First Drawing and Stone Age Boy. In English, we will be writing our own letters and creating our own adventure stories. In Maths, we will be learning about time, fractions, geometry -properties of shapes, statistics, money and addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In Science, we will be learning about Rocks and Soils. In Computing, we will be learning how to use different tools on a range of software packages, including how to copy and paste images and how to save images on to the school system. In Geography, we will be learning all about land, settlement, earthquakes and volcanoes. In Art and Design, we will be creating our own cave pavements and learn how to add specific details to add facial expression to images. In French, we will be learning about School and the subjects which we like or dislike. In History, we will be learning about changes in time from the Stone Age to the Iron Age.

Topic: All the Fun of the Circus

During this half term we will be basing our learning on the Circus and our class text will be Leon and the Place Between. In English, we will be writing our own persuasive pieces and creating our own Leon and the Place Between mystery and suspense narratives. In Maths, we will be learning about fractions, measurement of weight, length, temperature and capacity, geometry -properties of shapes, statistics, reasoning and problem solving for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and also time.

In Science, we will be learning about magnets, forces and friction. In Computing, we will be learning about how to stay safe using the internet. We will then learn how to use different programs to control movement. In Geography, we will be learning all about compasses and how to use the 8 points of a compass to describe a location. In Art and Design, we will be learning about the artist Mark Bryan. We will create montages of circus themed images and sketch in the style of Mark Bryan. In French, we will learn how to describe a person's appearance. In PE, we will be using dance movements to show the mood of a piece of music from Alice in Wonderland.

Topic: Alice in Wonderland

During this half term we will be basing our learning on Alice in Wonderland. In English, we will be writing instructions for different recipes, creating our own Alice in Wonderland themed narratives and writing non-chronological reports about food origins. In Maths, we will be learning about money, statistics, time, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions and properties of shape. In Science, we will be learning about Animals including Humans. In Computing, we will be learning about how to stay safe using the internet. We will then learn how to edit different images, and use cameras to take photographs. In Geography, we will be learning all about the maps, symbols and grid references. We will be locating different places on a map and using symbols to describe a locality. In Design and Technology, we will be designing our own healthy food plates, and also preparing and cooking food. We will also spend time learning about food safety. In French, we will be learning the French names for different foods. In PE, we will be using dance movements to show the mood of a piece of music from Alice in Wonderland.

Topic Overview Autumn 1 Newsletter Term: Autumn 1
Topic: Gruesome Gods

During this half term we will be basing our learning on the Gruesome Gods. In English, we will be writing character and setting descriptions, as well as a narrative based on one of the Greek myths. In Maths, we will be learning about place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, measurement, fractions, properties of shapes and position and direction. In Science, we will be looking at materials and the different properties of them. In Computing, we will be learning about how to stay safe using the internet. We will then create a PowerPoint based on our research of the Greeks and present this with the class. In History, we will be learning all about the Greeks and their influence they have had on us today. In Design and Technology, we will be designing and creating our own Greek pot. In Music, we will be learning a Greek war chant and use recorders to accompany the chant. In PE, we will be using dance movements to act out the Trojan War and take part in traditional Greek athletics from the Olympic games.
