Topic: As Mad as a Hatter

During this half term we will be basing our learning on Alice in Wonderland. In English, we will be writing instructions for different recipes, creating our own Alice in Wonderland themed narratives and writing a newspaper article on the events that take place in the story. In Maths, we will be learning about money, statistics, time, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions and properties of shape. The Science topic, focuses on Animals including Humans. We will be specifically looking at healthy eating. In Computing, we will be learning about how to stay safe using the internet. We will then learn how to edit different images, and use cameras to take photographs. During Geography, we will be learning all about maps, symbols and grid references. We will be locating different places on a map and using symbols to describe a locality. In Design and Technology, we will be designing our own healthy food plates, and also preparing and cooking food. We will also spend time learning about food safety.

Topic: Chocolate Fever

Our topic for Autumn Term 1 will be 'Chocolate Fever'. Within our English lessons we will be looking closely at the text: Charlie and the Chocolate factory. This will form the focus of our English lessons and we will use this to write a detailed setting and character description as well as a short story. In Mathematics, we will be developing our knowledge of place value, addition, subtraction, shape and measure. In Year 3, it is extremely important that multiplication facts are learnt and recalled as multiplication links with many other areas of the maths curriculum. In Computing we will be looking at how to use technology safely and will be creating our own programs. In History, we will be looking at the history of chocolate. In Art, we will be learning about the greatest artists, architects and designers in history. In Music, we will be learning how to use accuracy, control and expression when singing. Finally in PE we will be focusing on gymnastics.
