Topic: Ultimate Theme Parks
Our topic during summer term 2 is Ultimate Theme Parks. We will be researching and finding out about all the things that make theme parks enjoyable. This term children will participate in History, Geography, Art and Design activities. Year 6 children will research the location of theme parks and their history. Within Art and Design, we will be designing our own ride and logo. The role play area is based on a rollercoaster, the children will be able to run their own theme park, sell tickets and run the rides. Through English the children will write in a range of genres including recounts about their time at Alton Towers, persuasive writing to persuade someone to visit a theme park and balanced arguments. The children will be able to hold debates questioning the benefit of theme parks, whether they should be located by people's houses, and the safety of them. Our aim is to do the very best for every child. We operate an open door policy if you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to contact us.

Topic: Extreme Earth
Our topic for this half-term is Extreme Earth! Topic: Extreme Earth. We will be writing setting and character descriptions as well as biographies about famous daredevils. Our text for the half term is 'Queen of the Falls' by Chris Van Allsburg, which focuses on the story of Annie Taylor and her adventures at Niagara Falls. During our topic we will be looking at extreme weather events and natural disasters around the world.

Topic: Tales from the Arabian Nights
In this History based topic, children will study Baghdad as a civilisation from 570 AD. Children will look at the changes over time and the major historical events that have had a critical impact on the country. The text we are focusing on for this topic are 'Tales from the Arabian nights', with a particular focus on one of these stories being 'Aladdin and the Enchanted lamp'. In English we will read the text, understanding the meaning of new and unfamiliar language and write our own Arabian stories. In art and design we will look at the complex patterns that are created in many of the buildings and art work of the country.

Topic: Prince Caspian
In this History based topic, children will link their topic work to the text we will study in English and will also be exposed to other reading materials which relate to the Battle of Hastings. The text chosen for this term is 'Prince Caspian' (Chronicles of Narnia) by C.S. Lewis. With this text we will look at persuasive writing, balanced arguments and descriptive writing. Non-chronological reports of some of 'The Battle of Hastings' will be included into topical lessons such as History.
In Design and Technology lessons, children will have the opportunity to analyse and investigate a range of historical armour. They will have the opportunity to design, make and evaluate products using a wide range of materials and components.
In Dance, children will have opportunities to create, evaluate and perform their own dances, they will use and respond to a variety of stimuli. Computing will allow the children to use tools to adapt and create documents. They will have the opportunity to develop their confidence and knowledge on the World, Wide, Web.

Topic: A Tropical Adventure
In this Geography based topic, children will link their topic work to the text we will study in English. The text chosen for this term is 'Kensuke's Kingdom' by Michael Morpurgo. With this text we will look at first person accounts as Michael finds himself stranded on this lonely island. Newspaper reports for the family's missing child and non-chronological reports of some of the animals living on this deserted island. In Geography children will look at maps and study the geographical features of a land and compare different areas of the world. We will study the Amazon rainforest including the living things living there and the natural habitats they find themselves in. Then looking at deforestation and the effects of people on these living habitats around the world; looking at how we can begin to prevent these damages. In Art and Design and Technology, children will have opportunities to build ships like that of the Peggy Sue and test them out scientifically to see whose can sail the stormy waters the best. Children will study famous artists who have created scenes of the Rainforest, using these artist's styles to create our own.

Topic: World War 2
During this half term we will be basing our learning on the novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. We will be exploring a range of genres through reading and writing. We will be writing a range of first person recounts. We will be reading The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas as part of our English lessons. In Maths we will extend and challenge ourselves within the number topic, we will look at problem solving through all aspects of the maths curriculum, focussing on place value, the four operations, measurement, geometry and fractions. Our History will explore many aspects of World War Two. As part of our Science work we will look at Animals including humans, looking at the circulatory system and a balanced lifestyle. Our RE and PSHE will be looking at; what happens when we die? And New beginnings.
