Term: Summer 1
Topic: Fantasy Land
This term, our topic is 'Fantasy Land'. We will be looking at Peter Pan and other Pirate stories. We will write character descriptions and even go on an adventure!! In Literacy we will continue to practice writing sentences using our phonics skills, a capital letter, full stop and finger spaces. We will also try to use connectives in our writing to extend our sentences. In mathematics, we will continue to practice adding and subtracting by counting on and back using a number line. We will recap money and time to apply our skills that we already know to help us to solve worded problems. We will be making our own pirate maps, flags and telescopes and looking at pirate rules and diets. We will make our own boat and carry out an experiment to see if our boats float or sink!

Term: Spring 2
Topic: All Creatures Great and Small
During this half term, we will be looking at 'All Creatures Great and Small'. We will investigate the life cycles of different animals and visit a working farm which will allow us to think about different ways of caring for animals.
To support our topic our role play area has been transformed into a barn! We will start to look at non-fiction texts in Literacy and in Mathematics we will continue to look at shape, exploring 2D and 3D shapes. We will also consolidate our understanding of addition and subtraction and we will begin to solve worded problems relating to halving and doubling.

Term: Spring 1
Topic: Who's Afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf?
This half term we will be looking at a range of traditional tales and stories. In our Literacy lessons we will be acting out and retelling the story of Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Gingerbread Man. We will be sequencing the stories and trying to retell them in our own words. We will also focus on using adjectives to describe the characters and story settings.
In maths we will be looking at weight, capacity, money and positional language for our shape, space and measure lessons. In number we will focus on subtraction, doubling and halving.
Our topic lesson we will look at the good and bad story characters, explore different foods (like gingerbread men and porridge!) and talk about the textures and tastes.

Term: Autumn 2
Topic: Winter Tales
This half term our topic is 'The Gruffalo and Friends'. We will be looking at the stories of popular author Julia Donaldson; focusing first on the friendly characters in The Gruffalo. We will be practising reading and writing numbers up to 20 and will try to order, add and subtract using these.
In our Literacy lessons we will be practising writing words and sentences using our phonics skills. Our Educational Visit this half term is to the Snowdome at Tamworth where we will explore a winter setting and watch a great Santa show too. We may also get the chance to meet some of Santa's reindeer and other animals!

Term: Autumn 1
Topic: CBeebies Land
This half term our topic is 'CBeebies Land'. We will be sharing lots of stories from the CBeebies range and talking about their characters. We will be thinking about how characters look and act and beginning to write simple sentences about them. In maths we are practising reading and writing our numbers and 20 and also practising counting up to 20 items. During the term we will also be visiting Alton Towers to explore CBeebies Land.
