Topic: Dear Zoo
Our 'Dear Zoo' topic during this half term will focus around the 'Dear Zoo' story by Rod Campbell. We will introduce a variety of animals and their habitats, this will range from animals that live on the farm, in the zoo and in the sea. Following on from this we will be talking about pets and asking children to bring in pictures of their own pets. Our role play area will be set up as a Zoo where children will be able to role- play being a vet or a zoo keeper and help to look after the animals. The children are very lucky to be going on a an educational visit to Chester Zoo on 23rd March to consolidate their learning of this topic.
We will continue to focus on name writing, letter sounds and writing CVC words during literacy and phonics. Our numeracy focus will be number recognition, recognising and recreating patterns, more or less and beginning to add two sets of numbers. Topic: Rhyme Time
As we begin our 'Rhyme Time' topic we will focus on the consolidation of rhyme and alliteration. We will explore and learn about a wide variety of nursery rhymes and their characters and extend this into all areas of the curriculum as we engage in lots of creative activities. The role play area has magically transformed into a bus and will provide opportunities to extend our reading, writing, maths and phonics. The children will be able to access rhyming games and make their own rhymes using a variety of instruments (let's hope this is not too noisy!!). Our literacy focus will be to continue to write our names, to hear and say the initial sound and to represent sounds correctly in our writing as we write get well cards for Humpty Dumpty, a list of ingredients for the Queen of Hearts tarts and a 'wanted' poster to help find Little Bo Peeps sheep. We will also place a reading emphasis on sequencing events from our favourite rhymes and retelling events from stories and rhymes. Our maths focus will be counting up to 10 objects, finding one more and one less, recognising differences in quantity and recognising and using shapes as we construct various models.

Topic: All about me and the world we live in
Our topic during this half term will initially focus on ensuring that all children become settled, confident and aware of the routines and expectations within the nursery setting. As we focus more on our topic we will be talking about ourselves and our families and getting to know our peers. We will be learning about the different parts of the body and discussing our features and what makes us different and unique. Our main story focus will be 'Elmer the Elephant' and we will explore how Elmer was different to his friends. We will be getting messy as we paint self portraits and pictures of Elmer. We will also learn lots of new songs as we begin our phase 1 phonics sessions. Our role play area has been transformed into a lovely home corner where we can role play all the jobs that our mummy's and daddy's do around the home and there are also opportunities for us to mark make as we draw pictures and write shopping lists.
